Trump says freeing activist Jimmy Lai jailed in China is 'tough'

Mr Lai, the founder of the now-shuttered pro-democracy Apple Daily newspaper in Hong Kong, was sentenced to 20 years in jail in February under a national security law imposed by Beijing in 2020 that has virtually silenced dissent in Hong Kong.
