India pushes for women's quota bill as row over parliamentary seats intensifies

India's government has launched a once-in-a-generation attempt to redraw the country's political map, saying it is driven by a push to reserve a third of seats for women in parliament and state assemblies. The government unveiled the proposed constitutional amendment - requiring a two-thirds majority - at the start of a three-day special parliament session, which began on Thursday.
